Foreigner - I Want To Know What Love Is
Like a lot of parents to children under a certain age, my mother took me just about everywhere she went. I spent a lot of time in places that played a lot of what I like to call “jukebox rock”. You know what I’m talking about. That retrotastic mix of power ballads, prog-rock and Meat Loaf that seem most at home in seedy dive bars cloudy with smoke from both cigarettes and greasy burger stove ranges. As a result, I sometimes feel like I experienced the 80’s and 90’s simultaneously… and have a passion for burger bars.
I’m usually familiar with a lot of jukebox rock, but occasionally I’ll hear something I haven’t heard before when I’m out and about, which is what happened recently. Sadly there was no badass biker chick who would take me on an adventure and appeared through the smoke as she made her screen-entrance to the words “I can’t stop now, I’ve traveled so far to change this lonely life”. Instead, I was playing pool for the first time in real life with my best friend. I’m not as good at it as I am at the pool game in Super Monkey Ball for Gamecube. Weird.
Long story short, I lost the pool game, got drunk and had a great time (in part due to Foreigner, in lesser part due to Rihanna’s Umbrella playing a few minutes later).
